Pine cone panel with driftwood branches, EmotionWood Forest Series
The Pinecone Panel

· The Pinecone Panel ·

A piece of the forest floor, on your wall.

Real pine cones, set exactly as the forest grew them.

No two panels are ever the same.

More than just wood

Born from Estonian forests.

EmotionWood has crafted eco-friendly wood design panels in Estonia since 2014, where nature and design meet in balance. Every panel is made by hand by skilled artisans, guided by Nordic values of quality and responsibility.

Which is why these panels aren't only a surface to look at. They're solid-wood panels that earn their place on the wall: acoustically, environmentally and for years.

Made in Estonia. Defined by quality. EmotionWood · Tallinn

Why it lasts

Solid wood, engineered to be lived with.

The Pinecone panel is made from real pine cones, set by hand into a 500 mm panel with around 50 mm of natural depth. The result is a deep, sculptural surface full of shadow and texture, and because it is real forest material, no two panels are ever the same.

EmotionWood Pinecone panel, natural cone-scale texture

Material · Real pine cones

Real cones,
real forest.

Every panel is made from genuine natural pine cones, set by hand and left exactly as they grew. It brings a piece of the forest floor straight onto the wall, rich, warm and unmistakably real.

  • Genuine pine cones, not a print
  • Natural tone and texture throughout
  • A 500 × 500 mm panel format

Depth · Sculptural relief

Depth you
can feel.

At around 50 mm deep, this is a truly three-dimensional surface. Light catches the cones and throws real shadow across the wall, so the panel shifts and changes through the day.

  • About 50 mm of natural depth
  • Real shadow and relief, not a flat texture
  • A tactile, sculptural feature

Character · One of a kind

No two panels
are alike.

Because it is real forest material, every panel is arranged differently, with its own shapes, shades and grain. Laid together they read as one living, textured surface, never a repeat.

  • Unique arrangement on every panel
  • Natural shade variation is the point
  • A wall that is truly your own

Spaces · Walls & ceilings

Walls and
ceilings.

The Pinecone panel works as a dramatic feature wall or an unexpected, tactile ceiling. It has been used to striking effect in homes and in spa and sauna spaces as a decorative overhead feature.

  • A deep, sculptural feature wall
  • A striking, tactile ceiling
  • Homes, spas and wellness spaces

Supply · Limited annual run

Gathered
in season.

Pine cones are gathered in season, so the panel is made to order in a limited annual run by EmotionWood in Tallinn. It is worth checking availability and lead time early when you plan a wall.

Installation

Up on the wall in an afternoon.

Two honest ways to fix the panels: bond straight to a flat wall with adhesive, or brad-nail to battens. No specialist trade required: a clean wall, a level, and a steady row-by-row rhythm.

GLUE THE FIELD stop short of every edge & corner wall panel 50 mm press & level

Best on a flat, dry, load-tested wall. No battens needed; the wall itself is the substrate.

Bonded straight to the wall.

The fastest route for a sound, level wall. A heat- and moisture-resistant silicone holds the panels flush with no visible fixings.

  1. Prep the wallClean, flat and level. Finish all wet works first so the wall is fully dry.
  2. Butter the panelSpread moisture-resistant silicone across the back, covering edges and corners, but stop short of the very edge so it won't squeeze out.
  3. Press & levelSet the panel, press firmly so it beds evenly, and check it sits flush and true.
  4. Work the wallTop to bottom, left to right, row by row, and the seams disappear as you go.
  5. Seal & treatFinish with a breathable wood protector to guard against dirt and moisture.

The rhythm: row by row.

Whichever way you fix them, start top-left, then work down and across so each row locks into the last.

Before you start

  • Acclimatise first. Store the panels in the room for a few weeks so the wood settles to its temperature and humidity. Never below freezing.
  • Wet works first. Finish any wet trades before fitting; panels fixed to a damp wall will absorb moisture and swell.
  • Order a little extra. Allow 5 to 10% for cuts and edge pieces, and expect gentle shade variation between batches.

Care & repair

  • Protect it. Treat all surfaces with a breathable wood protector; it repels dirt and moisture and lifts the grain.
  • Never pressure-wash. Running water or a pressure washer will damage the wood; wipe clean and dry only.
  • Swap a damaged piece. Chisel it out, clean the plywood back, and glue a replacement in; no need to redo the wall.

Common questions

Answered, before you ask.

A real human is one click away, but most of what we get asked is right here.

Talk to a specialist
How much does one pack cover?

Each box holds 2 panels and covers about 0.5 m². Panels are 500 × 500 mm with a coverage of 0.25 m² each. Order by the square metre, and allow 5 to 10% extra for cuts and waste.

Can I use it in a spa or sauna?

It is a decorative feature, and it has been installed as a wall and ceiling feature in spa and sauna rooms. It is raw, natural pine cones though, not a heat or moisture-treated wood, so keep it to dry, well-ventilated feature surfaces and away from direct water, steam and the area right beside a heater. For surfaces in the splash zone or right by the heat source, ask us about our thermo-treated panel series.

Is it real pine cones?

Yes. Every panel is made from genuine natural pine cones, not a print or a moulded copy. Each panel keeps its own arrangement, shapes and colour, so expect natural variation from panel to panel; that variation is the character.

How deep is it, and what does it look like?

It is a genuinely three-dimensional panel, around 50 mm deep. Light catches the cones and casts real shadow, so it reads as a rich, sculptural surface that changes with the light rather than a flat texture.

How do I install it?

This is a deep, heavier panel, so it needs a solid base. Bond it to a clean, dry, level wall with a strong adhesive and fix the backing to timber battens, working from the top. Let the panels acclimatise in the room first and keep the surface dry.

Why is availability limited?

Pine cones are gathered in season, so the panel is produced in a limited annual run and made to order. Talk to a specialist to check current availability and lead time before you plan your wall.
